Mustard Velvet Skort

in Fall, Style on 10/20/17

Free People Skort

Navy Pullover Sweater

Over The Knee Boots

Gucci Bag

We made it to Friday, fam! I hope you all had a great week. I am so, so excited to finally be sharing this darling little mustard yellow velvet skort with you all. I first spotted it at one of my favorite Chicago boutiques, Alice & Wonder, during a dinner party event they held for a few other Chicago bloggers a couple weeks back. This is definitely a little different than what I typically wear (yay for going outside style comfort zones!); nonetheless, I knew I had to have it the moment I saw it. There are so many ways you could style this, and I know it’ll be perfect for the holiday season; if you’re a bit thrown by the color, the texture, the fact that it’s a skort, fear not, I promise I’ll give some other ideas of how to rock this!

I’ve been loving all things mustard and velvet lately, and I knew I liked this right away, but a part of me at first was like whoaaa, ok, what do I wear with this..? The answer, once I thought it over, is actually pretty much everything. It can be dressed up or down; I love it paired with chunky sweaters and over the knee boots, or even a graphic tee shirt, cardigan, and loafers. The velvet is just the prettiest fabric for holiday looks, and I’m thinking it would be especially perfect for Thanksgiving dinners; I’d love it with a white lace bell sleeve top and black patent pumps.

Honestly, I just treat mustard as a neutral and it makes my life a whole lot easier. And better, ha. I have it paired with just a simple navy jumper here, and then kept my shoes neutral; the greyish taupe hue helps balance everything out. Obviously, this skirt would look great paired with black or white, but I would also try pairing it with some darker fall colors, maybe a burgundy, a plum, or even a hunter green would compliment it perfectly.

I felt so amazing wearing this outfit! This skort is a total confidence booster; it’s girlie, it moves and twirls when you walk, has the cutest little faux-wrap detail on the front, and can I just say how personally excited I am to be seeing the return of skorts?! I mean talk about practical, am I right? I also forgot to mention that it’s under $80 *score!*
